Qunoot in Witr or dua al qunoot

is a subject of dispute among the scholars, and Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah pointed out in the major fatwas where he said: As for qunoot al-witr, scholars have three sayings about it:

1- It was said: It is not desirable in any case, because it has not been proven from the Prophet, may Allah prayers and peace be upon him, that he performed qunoot during the witr.

2- And it was said: Rather, it is recommended throughout the Sunnah, as it is reported on the authority of Ibn Masoud and others, and because in the Sunan the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, taught Al-Hasan bin Ali – may Allah be pleased with them both – a supplication that he used to recite in Qunoot al-Witr.

3- And it was said: Rather, it is performed qunoot in the last half of Ramadan, as Ubai bin Ka’b used to do, and the truth of the matter is that qunoot al-witr is of the same type as the supplication that is permissible in prayer.

And as he is given the choice if he prays the qunoot with three if he wishes, separate, and if he wishes, pray, and also he is given the choice in the prayer of qunut if he wants to do it, and if he wants to leave it.

Moreover, if he prays with them in Ramadan, and if he prays for the whole month, it is good, and if he prays in the last half, it is better, and if he does not do it. Anyway, it’s better.

  • Oh, Allah, we seek Your help and seek Your forgiveness and we praise You with all goodness and we thank You and do not disbelieve in You We cast off and leave those who slander You.

Or at the end of it, by saying: O Allah, guide me in those whom I have guided, and help me in those whom I have recovered.. etc.; Because the Messenger, peace be upon him, was taught by the son of his daughter, Al-Hassan, and the teaching of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to one, is education for all.
